An article in the Columbus Dispatch takes a look at spending at Ohio State University using the recently-released Knight Commission Academic and Athletic Spending Database. The trends at Ohio State run counter to the general trends of most public Division I universities that experienced a rise in athletics spending while academic spending stagnated. The article notes:
“Ohio State University increased its spending on athletics over a six-year stretch, but it boosted its academics-only spending at an even greater rate, a new collection of data shows. That wasn’t true of all of the Big Ten’s public universities between 2005 and 2011. Only five of the 10 public schools in the conference during that time increased academic spending.”
